Wait what? It’s been a year since I’ve photographed sweet little Ella? You may remember her from her birth photography session and her newborn photography session last year. Her family moved to north Texas and I haven’t had the chance to see her in several months. I was THRILLED when her mom said she was making the 5+ hour trek back to Austin so that we could photograph her one year old first birthday cake smash! Still amazed that she drove 11 hours in one day for these photos, but in the end, so worth it! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I. Love. Cake Smashes! They are hysterical and so much fun to watch. And it doesn’t hurt when baby is as adorable as this one ♥

Triple Goodness | austin multiples cake smash photographer | mollie kendall photography

Several months ago, I held a Diaper Derby contest. Votes were tallied by “likes” on images on my Facebook page. This adorable set of triplets was the winner and we held off on the session until their first birthday for a cake smash! I’ve done quite a few of these sessions now, even one with twins, and they are always a blast…. but with triplets it was 3x the crazy fun!

2010 Revisited | Mollie Kendall Photography

Another year gone. I know it’s awfully cliche to say ‘where did the time go’ or ‘how time flies’, but it’s true.
I was very blessed throughout 2010 to keep busy with some really fantastic clients and talented colleagues! Thank you to you all!!

I wanted to make another year in review slideshow as I did last year but really had a hard time choosing one image from each session. So I picked two!
So here they are. My favorite two images from 50 sessions.
They span birth sessions, maternity, newborns, children, first birthday cake smashes, couples, high school seniors, families, commercial, weddings… and even a session at the end with my own kids. {grin}

I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I had reliving them! I’m looking forward to amazing time in 2011! Happy New Year!!

Squash it | austin cake smash photographer

I love this. I love when one of my newborn session clients comes back to see me for a first birthday cake smash session. It seems, in my mind, that these sweet babies were JUST born and here they are again, one year older. I have a family session I’ll share soon as well where a newborn client is now 18 months old. While it’s great to see my little ones grow and change, it also reminds me to Slow. Down! I need to stop and take in my own life. My children’s lives. I need to embrace my business, as every time I have a repeat client, it’s an anniversary of sorts. I’m still here, doing my thing. And it’s all due to my amazing clients. In the ‘illustrious’ words of Ferris Bueller: Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

So for some here and now, we have Sweet Lucca. From her newborn session here, you can see she’s is still just a stunning little girl! And my, did she have some fun with her cake! Not sure at first about eating all that sweet or even playing with her food, she got over it pretty quickly once Mommy and I dug into her cake on her behalf. Then it was game on!! I think her sneak peek shot says it all! ♥

cake for two | austin twins cake smash photographer

I have so much fun with first birthday cake smash sessions. Kids are hilarious anyway, but give them a big pile of sugar with full permissions and well it can only = fun. You really can’t guarantee much with it. Some kids love it. Some kids could care less. But you can guarantee that it’s me, mom and dad pretty much laughing for 45 minutes straight.

This session was twice as interesting. Two kids, one cake. I fully expected an all out baby brawl over it but to my surprise, neither seemed to care too much. They were having more fun with each others hats and their newly acquired crawling skills. I tried to peek their interest in the cake by selflessly helping myself to bites and making endless yummy noises, but they could not be tempted. Such good babies!!

These twins are so adorable! I couldn’t wait to get to play with them again for our family session a few weeks later. Here are some photos from our cake smash session.

In my years of doing cake smash sessions, one of the best parts is taking bets with mom and dad beforehand as to what will happen. Will the baby pick at the cake? Eat it all in a dainty and polite manner? Or {ideally} will they shove it all in as quickly as humanly possible, as if it will disappear in the following moments. Usually this is baby’s first birthday and their first experience with cake, so you just never know. I’ve gotten pretty good at predicting by how they approach me when we meet.

The session was special. TWINS!! You have no idea how looking forward to this I was. I enjoy these sessions a little more than a grown adult should but with two babies?… Well let’s just say the Doublemint theme song played in my head for days before our appointment! Mom and Dad and I placed our bets but none of us predicted what would happen. See, no one took into consideration that these little cuties learned to crawl JUST. THIS. WEEK! And being in a new place?… well the cake stood little chance. Poor mom and dad. They canceled their gym date as they worked up a tremendous sweat in the hour we spent together. I got a lot of good shots despite these on the go little ones but I had to share a sneak peek picture that captured the essence of the photo shoot. More to come
