In my years of doing cake smash sessions, one of the best parts is taking bets with mom and dad beforehand as to what will happen. Will the baby pick at the cake? Eat it all in a dainty and polite manner? Or {ideally} will they shove it all in as quickly as humanly possible, as if it will disappear in the following moments. Usually this is baby’s first birthday and their first experience with cake, so you just never know. I’ve gotten pretty good at predicting by how they approach me when we meet.

The session was special. TWINS!! You have no idea how looking forward to this I was. I enjoy these sessions a little more than a grown adult should but with two babies?… Well let’s just say the Doublemint theme song played in my head for days before our appointment! Mom and Dad and I placed our bets but none of us predicted what would happen. See, no one took into consideration that these little cuties learned to crawl JUST. THIS. WEEK! And being in a new place?… well the cake stood little chance. Poor mom and dad. They canceled their gym date as they worked up a tremendous sweat in the hour we spent together. I got a lot of good shots despite these on the go little ones but I had to share a sneak peek picture that captured the essence of the photo shoot. More to come

2009 was a successful year for me and I’m so thankful for the part you all played in that. Huge monstrous thank you to my 2009 clients ♥ I loved each and every session and am thankful that you allowed me to be a part of your lives. I was giddy excited a few days ago. One of my favorite newborn clients, Gabriel, visited me again… but this time for his first birthday cake smash session! He is *every*single*bit* as adorable as he was when I initially met him, no question Here’s just a little sneak of his session.

Squishy Goodness!! You can take your pick on whether I’m speaking of the cake or the subject. {wink} I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this QT before. In honor of mr. Gavin becoming a one year old, momma brought him back to me on his birthday for a celebratory cake smash session. Too fun! He dove right in and took the cake apart almost before I had my camera in hand. He devoured his treat quickly, shot me some ridiculously adorable looks and quickly abandoned his smashing mission. Good thing I have a trigger happy finger!!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love cake smash sessions! Namely because they seem more like fun and less like work! It just makes me smile inside to see a little one year old’s eyes when we give them a {beautiful custom} birthday cake and tell them it’s aaaaall for them! They are so cute and Miss Addison was no exception! The funniest part I think was how particular she was. There really was no smashing… she was really quite polite about it all, picking off circles and stars! That is until the end, when she literally took a face dive for a bite.

A few days ago I completed my last (of the three) cake smash casting call sessions. This one certainly did not disappoint! While he was not so much into actually eating the cake? He was aaaaall about smashing it.

It seems that my previous feelings of not being a big studio portrait fan, is changing! No, I am not going to start doing business headshots or begin to buy country side scenic backdrops… but this baby’s first birthday cake smash thing is seriously SERIOUSLY growing on me!!

How adorable cake smash session number two was! Sweet little blue eyed, blonde haired, tanned baby Kamy. Just cute as a button. She was so full of spunk…{wink}…standing on her cake that way! I love that my job involves so much laughter! Couldn’t be luckier if I tried! Thanks Kamy and Mommy for a great session!

Let’s talk about good times for a minute shall we? Do you remember my casting call a while back for a cake smash session? I received my three guinea pigs …err… clients, within mere hours and yesterday I had my first one!

This. Session. Was. A. Blast!

Not only was the birthday boy adorable, but he flashed the best expression after priceless expression the whole time! Now I can’t be sure about this… But I’m *thinking* that this was the one and only day in this little guy’s life, where Mommy was encouraging him to eat cake at ten in the morning! I’m just guessing… Course we didn’t get any arguing out of him!
