{the one} where giving really is awesome!!

I want to thank you all for taking the time to nominate families for our giveaway. It was humbling to read your stories, and a blessing to know of people who struggle and persevere.  So without further adieu, I am so happy to share that the winner of the Giving is Awesome contest is the Krause family! I’d like to share the letter that I received on their behalf…

Mollie,

I know a family that deserves some extra attention this Christmas. Although, I don’t know them personally, I do know them through my church. They are the Krause Family. Amanda Krause is a single mom with two children; Madison (6th grade) and Stanton (4th grade). Their world was turned upside down in August when Stanton was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk brain cancer. He is currently undergoing treatment at Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin after brain surgery and radiation treatment at MD Anderson in Houston. Fortunately, two of Stanton’s tumors are gone but there are some spots left on the brain and on the spine. The good news is that the spots are all smaller than before and his doctors are very hopeful about his outcome.

Amanda works in outside sales and is commission dependent. As you can imagine, caring for Stanton’s needs greatly reduces time for generating sales and commission. Therefore, the family is having a hard time making ends meet.

On one hand, I think maybe this wouldn’t be the best time for family pictures. Then on the other hand, I feel that these memories will always be with them to look back on the time when Stanton kicked cancer’s butt!

Follow his progress here: http://unstoppablestanton.blogspot.com/

Blessings,
Delisa

After reading their story, my heart goes out to them all.  Especially Amanda.  To go through all this with a positive attitude for your children,  that is really huge. Amanda, I would guess that you are an amazing blessing to your children, a blessing of the example of what it means to persevere, to forge ahead, to press on.

I truly hope that we can capture some of that in your session, to capture YOU with your children, just being the strong family you are. I hope when you look at the images we will create that you see your own strength, the admiration your children must have for you, and the power of the love you share. I can not wait to meet you.

Just as a reminder, it is a free $1300 package. You can book any time. Just call me when you are ready. And Delisa, don’t forget you get the complimentary session and a filled album for nominating them. THANK YOU, Delisa, for taking the time.

{the one} where we pay it forward this holiday season | austin family photography

A group of my photographer friends from all over the United States (led by Kristen Kalp of Essential Imagery), have been challenged to offer an amazing gift. I found it to be a wonderful idea and just COULD NOT pass up on this opportunity to give what I can.

For many people, this is an exciting time of year–the hustle and bustle, the shopping and gift giving, holiday parties, and spending time with loved ones. For some, it’s a struggle and a painful reminder of hard times.

We all know someone who is struggling to barely hang on each month just to make ends meet, let alone be able to purchase anything that’s more than a basic necessity.  We all know someone who’s suffered a devastating set back and is having trouble getting back on their feet, someone that has day after day given selflessly, gone without, and sacrificed greatly for the benefit of others, or someone that just hasn’t been able to catch that break that’s gonna give them some financial margin in their life. Think about it, Who is that person that you know? Here’s where I need your help.

Let’s face it – photography is a luxury item, it’s not a necessity. That being said, what is more important than our relationships and our memories? I would argue not much, which is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about photography. I am blessed beyond measure to be able to do what I do, and this Christmas season, I’d like to give that special person you know a chance to have the gift of custom photography.

We want to know who they are, and we want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography – $1300 worth, to be exact. I will be teaming up with Dawn of DLM Photography in offering this Holiday gift!

The recipient will receive: a custom family or child’s session given by Dawn and myself, a leather session album with 20 5×7 images, an 11×14 canvas gallery wrap and a DVD containing all full resolution digital files from your session! It’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season.

Oh, and one more thing.. if you send in the nominee we select, you’ll also receive a complimentary session with Dawn & myself and a leather session album with 20 5×7 images as well! That is a $350 value… What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

The rules:

  • You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing our services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a million-dollar-vacation-home does not qualify as sincere financial need.)
  • The nominee must reside in Austin or any of it’s surrounding cities. Tell us who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve our artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.
  • Please put “Holiday Giveaway” in the subject line and email the full story to: mollie@molliekphotography.com

All nominations must be received by midnight, December 22nd, and the gift recipient will be announced on the blog on Christmas Eve. Please include your email and or phone with your nomination as well as the best way to get in contact with your nominee.

Not in my area?  Or know someone out of area that you would like to nominate?  The gift does not stop here in Austin.  Please view the Giving is Awesome website and look for one of my professional photographer friends participating in other cities/states/countries, in the same gift of giving movement.

Please forward this along to everyone you know and let’s get the nominating started!   Open your heart to someone this holiday season – and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

With love,

Mollie
